The Dip That Disappears First
Whenever I bring this Whipped Feta Dip to a party, I watch it go first. Every time. People stand around the bowl and keep coming back with another cracker until someone scrapes the last of it with their finger.
It’s so simple. Salty feta and tangy Greek yogurt get whipped until they’re light and fluffy, with a little lemon and garlic. Then you drizzle it with hot honey, sweet and spicy, and scatter pistachios and fresh thyme on top. Salty, creamy, sweet, crunchy, and a little heat. It’s all there.
Ten minutes and a food processor. That’s all. Let’s make it.

Essential Ingredients and Kitchen Tools
For the Whipped Feta:
- 8 oz (225 g) block feta cheese (in brine, not pre-crumbled, which is dry and chalky)

- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil (plus more to drizzle)
- 1 small garlic clove (grated)
- 1 tsp lemon zest and 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- A few cracks of black pepper
For the Hot Honey Topping:
- 3 tbsp honey
- 1/2 to 1 tsp red pepper flakes (or 1 tsp chili crisp; use more if you like it hot)
- 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
- 2 tbsp roughly chopped pistachios
- A few sprigs of fresh thyme
To Serve:
- Warm pita, crackers, cucumber, carrots, radishes, or apple slices
Kitchen Tools:

Instructions
Tap a step when it’s done.
- Hot honey: Warm the honey, pepper flakes, and vinegar over low heat for 2 minutes without boiling. Set aside.
- Whip: Pulse the crumbled feta until sandy, then add the yogurt, oil, garlic, lemon zest, lemon juice, and pepper. Blend 2 to 3 minutes until completely smooth.
- Adjust: Taste and loosen with a spoonful of yogurt or water if needed.
- Serve: Swirl into a shallow bowl, drizzle with hot honey and olive oil, and top with pistachios and thyme.
Notes
- Use block feta in brine for the smoothest dip.
- Blend for at least 2 full minutes.
- Store the dip and hot honey separately if making ahead.

Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Make the Hot Honey
Warm the honey, red pepper flakes, and vinegar in a small saucepan over low heat for 2 minutes, just until it’s runny and smells spicy. Don’t let it boil. Set it aside so the chili can steep while you whip the feta. The vinegar sounds strange, but it balances the sweetness.
Step 2: Whip the Feta
Drain the feta, pat it dry, and crumble it into the food processor. Pulse until it looks like fine sand. Then add the Greek yogurt, olive oil, garlic, lemon zest, lemon juice, and pepper.
Blend for a full 2 to 3 minutes, scraping down the sides once or twice. This is where I went wrong at the beginning. I stopped after 30 seconds and the dip was grainy. Keep going until it’s completely smooth and fluffy, like whipped cream cheese.
Step 3: Taste and Adjust
Taste it. Feta brands are very different in saltiness, so you probably won’t need extra salt. If it’s too thick, add 1 tablespoon of yogurt or water. If it’s too tangy, a little more olive oil softens it.
Step 4: Swirl and Serve the Whipped Feta Dip
Spread the Whipped Feta Dip into a shallow bowl and make deep swirls with the back of a spoon. Those swirls hold the honey. Drizzle the warm hot honey over the top, add a little olive oil, then scatter the pistachios and thyme leaves. Serve with warm pita and crunchy vegetables. Building a full snack board? Frequently Asked Questions
Can I Make Whipped Feta Dip Without a Food Processor?
Yes. A high-speed blender works well, just scrape it down more often. A hand mixer also works if you crumble the feta very finely first, but the dip will be a little less smooth.
Can I Use Cream Cheese Instead of Greek Yogurt?
You can. Cream cheese makes a richer, thicker dip. I like Greek yogurt because it’s lighter, tangier, and adds protein, but half cream cheese and half yogurt is delicious too.
How Far Ahead Can I Make It?
Up to 3 days. Store the whipped feta and the hot honey separately, then swirl and add the toppings right before serving.
Why Is My Whipped Feta Grainy?
It needs more blending, or the feta was too dry. Use feta that comes in brine and blend for at least 2 full minutes. A splash more yogurt also helps it turn silky.
Make-Ahead and Storage Tips
- Fridge: Keep the whipped feta in an airtight container for up to 4 days. Stir before serving.
- Hot honey: Store it in a jar at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. Warm it again if it thickens.
- Leftovers: Spread it on toast with a fried egg, use it under roasted vegetables, or add it to sandwiches and wraps.
- Freezer: Not recommended. Feta and yogurt separate after thawing.
